Applicability and Scope
Maya ("Maya", "we", "us") is an Android application developed and operated by Vaishnavi Mal. Maya is a step-by-step phone guide: you say what you want to do, and Maya points a cursor at exactly where to tap. Maya never taps, types, or acts on your behalf — you always perform every action yourself.
This policy covers the Maya app and this website. It does not cover the third-party apps Maya guides you through — those have their own privacy policies. By using Maya, you consent to the practices described here. Maya is intended for adults (18+, or with a guardian's permission).
The Information We Collect
On-screen text and buttons (Accessibility service): With your permission, given through an in-app disclosure, Maya reads the text, button labels and layout of the screen in front of you, plus the name of the app you are in — read-only; the app contains no code to tap, type or gesture. During a guided session this screen text is sent over an encrypted connection to our server and on to an AI service, solely to work out your next step. No screenshots or recordings are captured, no keystrokes are logged, and password, UPI PIN and payment screens are automatically excluded — never transmitted. Nothing is read outside a guided session. Turn this off anytime in Settings → Accessibility.
Your voice: While you hold the talk button, your speech is converted to text by your device's speech-recognition service (Google on most devices). We do not store voice recordings; only the transcribed request is processed.
Phone number (gift setup only): If Maya was gifted to you, you confirm your number via Google's one-tap Phone Number Hint; it is matched to the gift record your family member created and stored with it. Skip the step and no number is collected.
Usage analytics: Non-content events (session started, step shown, timings, errors), app version, device model and OS version. Never your screen content, voice, requests or contacts.
On your device only: Language preference, consent records, and bill reminders Maya offers during guided payments. Never uploaded; deleted when you uninstall.
How We Use and Share Information
We use this information only to understand your request, compute each guidance step, point and speak the instruction, connect you to a gift configuration, and fix errors. We do not sell your data, show ads, or build advertising profiles.
Data is shared only with the providers that make Maya work, over encrypted connections, with all API keys held on our server — never in the app:
AI model providers — screen text, app name and your request, to generate each step: Anthropic (Claude), or OpenRouter routing to OpenAI models. They process it solely to respond, under API terms that do not permit training on customer content by default. (Anthropic · OpenRouter · OpenAI)
Sarvam AI — the text of Maya's own replies, to generate her voice.
Cloudflare — our server infrastructure, relaying all traffic.
Supabase — stores gift records (phone number).
PostHog — analytics events.
We may disclose information where required by law, but Maya is designed so we hold very little to disclose.
Data Storage and Retention
Our infrastructure and providers may store data outside India. Screen text and requests are relayed, not stored, by our server (provider handling per their linked policies). Voice is never stored by us. Gift phone numbers are kept while the gift is active or until you request deletion. Analytics are kept up to 24 months. Local data stays on your device until you uninstall.
Your Information
Turn off screen reading (Settings → Accessibility → Maya) or revoke the microphone permission anytime — the corresponding features simply stop. To delete your gift record and associated data, email vaishnavimal28@gmail.com; verified requests are completed within 30 days. Rights may be limited where law requires us to retain records.
Security
All traffic is encrypted in transit (HTTPS/TLS); API keys live server-side, never in the app; access to infrastructure is limited to the developer. Maya deliberately transmits the minimum needed per step and stores almost nothing.
Children
Maya is designed for adults — parents, grandparents, first-time smartphone users — and is not directed at children. We do not knowingly collect children's data; contact us and we will delete any.
Changes to This Policy
If what Maya collects or which providers process data changes, we update this page and its date before the change ships, and reflect it in the in-app disclosure. Continued use after an update constitutes acceptance.
